Shane Cheek

Shane is Founder and Managing Partner of Acumen Ventures, an Australian based venture capital firm investing in technology companies in Australia and South East Asia. Prior to this he was Managing Director of Method Advisory, a boutique corporate advisory firm, where he provided strategy and transaction advisory services to companies across technology, media and telecommunications industries in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
Previously, he was with Playford Capital, where he led investments across enterprise applications, network infrastructure, data analytics and network security. He helped secure over $120 million of co-investment for portfolio companies with notable fund exits including Maxamine Inc (acquired by Accenture Inc ACN: NYSE) and Dspace (acquired by EMS Technologies Inc.)
For several years, Shane worked in strategy consulting working with high growth and ASX 50 Australian companies, State and Federal Government and public research institutions and prior to this, he worked in university research commercialisation where he was involved in the creation of startups including Cohda Wireless and Gaming Laboratories Australia.
Shane started out his career as an entrepreneur co-founding the marketing analytics software company, DataShark and technology services firm, Realize Technology. He has previously been an Adjunct Faculty Member at Carnegie Mellon University and taught Entrepreneurial Strategy and Finance at the University of Adelaide and Ngee Ann Institute Singapore.
Shane holds a Business Degree from the University of South Australia, a Master of Science & Technology Commercialisation from the University of Adelaide, and is an Alumnus of the Venture Capital Institute, Atlanta, USA.
He lives in Adelaide, South Australia, with his wife and two young daughters.
